Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with President Ronald Reagan many times to summits and debate topics including the Iran Contra scandal.
